New Parent Letter:
Welcome to La Verne Community Cheer program!

In a mentoring environment, our mission is to teach leadership skills using cheerleading as
the tool.

We have a  senior level coaching staff (Danna O’Donnell & Morgan O’Donnell) and High
School coaching staff (
Sarah Cohen and Beverly Famous).

We have a “long” practice, however, it is broken up into many facets.  A normal practice will
spend time conditioning/stretching, working on cheerleader type floor tumbling, cheer
technique, and learning cheers, chants, dances, stunts, etc. During Competition season, the
practice will be perfecting their competition routines.

IIn May, our new year-round season begins! On June first our "all-star" teams are locked into
a year-round season.  This means that nobody may be added after that date.

During the summer months, our concentration for our "Show Cheer" Squads (anyone who
joins after June 1st)  is in performance cheer, technique, flexibility and having a whole lot of
fun!  We perform about once a month.  The main concentration for our "all-star" squads will
be conditioning and getting them ready for the upcoming competition season by attending
various Cheer camps and learning together, what it is to be a squad.

What this means is if your cheerleader is 5 years old - she is part of
La Verne Community Cheer and a member of Team Tinkerbells.

If your child is in 5th grade or 6th grade and going to Middle school in the fall, she is also part
of La Verne Community Cheer and the Bearcat Cheer squad. 6th graders have the option to
be a "double team" and cheer, based on the coach's decision, to cheer for both the Bearcat
squad and the Viking squad. If you choose to do only one team, the 6th grader would be on
the Bearcat squad.

FUNDRAISERS do take place throughout the year to purchase necessary new
uniforms, poms,  new equipment, competition fees, and other group performances.

NEWSLETTER. The last practice of the month and first practice of the new month, a
newsletter is sent home with each cheerleader.  It will include the monthly calendar with
upcoming events highlighted, a class registration form, any necessary permission slips, etc.

Cheers!

Danna O’Donnell, Cheer Advisor & Morgan O’Donnell, Head Cheer Coach
